Clinical management of craniosynostosis depends on its severity. Surgery is usually performed if synostosis is completed early in life. Surgery involves removing sections of the cranium to allow its reshaping. If the deformity is not due to synostosis or it has not extensively progressed distraction devices may be used to slowly reshape the affected areas. Due to the great variety of cranial deformities a combination of surgery and distraction devices may be used. Below are examples of surgeries and distraction devices to treat craniosynostosis.
